ADD/ADHD & Vision

The specific behaviour of impulsivity, hyperactivity and distractibility are seen in children with ADHD and also in children with vision problems. As a result, children with vision problems are often mislabeled as suffering from ADHD. Children with convergence insufficiency are three times more likely to have associated ADHD.

Vision & ADD/ADHD
A recent study uncovered a relationship between a common vision disorder, convergence insufficiency, and ADHD. Studies show that children with convergence insufficiency are three times as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than children without the disorder.

25% of Children are likely to suffer from Learning-Related Vision Problems
This new research shows a significant percentage of children with learning disabilities have some type of vision problem. Studies have also shown that 13% of children between nine and thirteen years of age suffer from moderate to marked convergence insufficiency, and 25% of school-age children may have a vision problem that can affect learning.

Identify Vision Problems
Vision problems can have a huge impact on academic performance and behaviour in the classroom. Parents who suspect a vision problem may be contributing to their child’s learning or behaviour should arrange for a comprehensive vision examination with a qualified optometrist.
